Santeri Salokivi's preference for impressionistic expression manifests itself clearly throughout his work. He found his distinctive style early on, and there were no major changes in it or the search for new trends. He was a genuine ‘moment painter’ whose paintings were created in the open air quickly, often even two a day. Over the years, he became a master at capturing the splashes of rapidly changing sunlight. Brush strokes are rhythmic and often wide. Like the Impressionists, Salokivi was interested in the color and its nuancedness. Playing with light and shadow is typical of his paintings. Many paintings are dominated by a high-shining straight light that, with the use of white color, forms a strong contrast with toned shadows.

Toivo Santeri Salokivi, born in 1886 in Turku, was a Finnish painter, graphic artist and art teacher, known for his Impressionist style of landscapes. Salokivi studied at the Turku Drawing School between 1900−1904 and thereafter in Munich and Paris. Salokivi's trip to Venice in 1911 was also significant for his artistic development.
Salokivi worked as a drawing teacher at the Turku School of Drawing and as a drawing teacher at the Finnish Classical and Real Lyceum from 1914–1917. He had his own school of painting in Helsinki from 1930–1932.
Salokivi's works are greatly influenced by light saturation. He participated in the exhibitions of Finnish Artists between 1904 and 1936. His works include impressionistic archipelago motifs, figure compositions and finely executed etchings.
The artist exhibited at the Riga City Museum of Art in Latvia, Jungfrusund Museum in Högsåra, and HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
