Georg Rasmussen_edited_edited.jpg

Georg Anton Rasmussen was a was a Norwegian landscape painter born in 1842 in the city of Stavanger. Rasmussen received first his artistic lessons in Bergen with Johan Ludvig Losting and Anders Askevold. In 1863 he was a student of Frederik Rohde in Copenhagen and attended the art academy there. He also studied under Oswald Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1864−1867, and was also influenced by the art of Hans Fredrik Gude.

The diversity of his landscapes took off after 1870, presumably with regard to the tourists who liked to buy fjord pictures. He became one of the most productive fjord painters alongside Adelsteen Normann and Anders Askevold and had his greatest success in Germany.
Even after his studies, he retained a residence in Düsseldorf, Jägerhofstrasse. From 1868 to 1900 he was noted as a member of the local artists' workshop Malkasten. In 1899 he moved to Berlin and became a professor of painting. He only spent the summer holidays in his home country, where he also sold art directly to the tourists.
