About
Every Moment is a Memory
Along with being one of the greatest painters and portraitists in Sweden's history, Anders Zorn was also a master of the etching. The work above depicts a new maid at work in the Zorn household and is an excellent example of Zorn's ability to compose with combinations of light and dark areas in his etchings. A multiple of this etching is in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Indianapolis Museum of Art Collection, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Legion of Honor Museum of San Francisco.

Anders Zorn was a visual artist and graphic artist born in Mora, Dalarna. His father was a brewer from southern Germany and his mother a bottle washer. He grew up with his grandparents and went to school in Enköping.
He was educated at The Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1875-1881. He is considered one of the foremost Swedish artists. He was also appreciated abroad, not least in the United States, where he was hired as a portrait painter by presidents, business leaders and people in society.
He exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts student exhibition, in Madrid and at the Paris Salon, the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Watercolors in London, the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon, the 1889 World Exhibition, the Salon Champs de Mars, and a solo exhibition in Stockholm − also at Champs de Mars and in Germany at the Munich Jahresaustellung, 1893 at the Chicago World's Fair, Helsinki, New York, the Venice Biennale the Baltic exhibition in Malmö.
At his first World Exhibition in Paris he received a gold medal, and at the second World Exhibition in Paris he received a silver medal both as a visual artist and engraver, and won awards in St. Petersburg 1908 and in Munich. He received the Knight of the Order of the North Star in 1895. He became Commander of the Order of Vaasa and Honorary Member of the Accademia de Belle arti Milano in 1910.
In 1919 he became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, and also instituted the Bellman Prize which provides donations to professorship in art history at Stockholm University and funds to Zornska Orphanage.
